Rodrigo Bentancur

I think a centre mid can stay pretty fresh if they play 90 mins in a game, 60 in the next and 30 from the bench in the third. With Sarr, Biss and Bents they have the attributes to rotate in this way. Bents is the only one that needs to alternate between 6 and 8 and has this in his locker.

I'm very interested in Bentancur's next performance

A big part of if he hits the ground running and makes and instant team impact will be freshness (like Spence)

Me too. Didn't look good in the last EL fixture imo.

We really could do with him getting back to something close to his best rather quickly.

And match conditioning. He’s missed many matches so it’s unlikely that he’ll be immediately right back at it. If he starts I’d expect him to be carded then subbed off around 70 minutes.

He had a good game, made a difference

Then did a stupid thing ..
Unfortunately has a habit of picking up unnecessary yellow cards and making those borderline at best type aggressive tackles.

Needs to be smarter about these things. Limits his game when playing on a yellow and limits is when he gets suspended.

On a pod Ali Gold said it was one of the most stupid challenges ever, 97th minute, out wide on the touchline, on 4 yellows already, just been banned for 7 games... and I was thinking "yeah but what about Aurier's challenges to give away penalties and freekicks, what about when Kyle Walker would charge into people's backs, what about when Gazzaniga kung fu kicked someone in the head" and his co-host said "what about the penalties Bissouma and Sarr gave away vs Chelsea a few weeks ago" and I thought "Damn, no wonder we keep failing, we just shoot ourselves in the foot most weeks".

I mean, we can improve by buying better players, or by getting fit, but damn we need to stop killing ourselves.

Add Danny Rose vs Villa to that list.. still bugs me

How about some of Gomes’s rugby tackles? I remember against Blackpool, he saved a penalty only to immediately concede another one. He also made an interesting challenge against Di Natale of Udinese. He was a fun keeper. Went through the full range of performance levels with us.

If he's to play as a 6 he has to be smarter about these things.

I think he's more than a 6, he's one of the few players that we have that can force things to happen (Deki is another), ideally we get a top level 6 to rotate with Gray (in training) and can push Bentancur up more

But either way, needs to just be smarter on/off field, really good player in there.

I think his best role probably is that 8/Sarr role. I agree he's one that can force things.

As things stand though he's one of two 6 options in the squad until/unless Gray gets game time there. If that's where he's going to play he needs to be smarter about a few things and improve on some others.

A top level 6 would be fantastic. Looks difficult in January and probably will be difficult come the summer too.
