Sick sick world what is wrong with people

The whole reaction to it is sickening. I hope the people attacked are ok and get some support in terms of dealing with the ongoing effects of this.

It’s a vile attack on people and it strikes me from what we’ve been told that this could end up being a very unwell person who perhaps hasn’t got access to the support he needs for mental health issues. I think potentially a lot comes out of this regarding reactions of the services given that he now appears to have been linked to other incidents and of course the usual questions about MH service provision.

The bit that has truly wound me up though is people online who immediately tried to pin this on asylum seekers. There were so many posts, basically saying “see! Look how dangerous they are!” Before anyone knew anything. I had a few arguments online about people saying we are “importing scum when we have enough of our own” wilfully and gladly ignoring the fact this chap was born in this country and is British. I saw lots of comments when the news of him being British was announced, along the lines of “yeah but is he British, or actually British?” And more than a few “Not going to be a Dave or a Trevor though is he”. Turns out he’s an Anthony.

The amount of vile, overt, completely blatant racists that have now been made to feel comfortable walking amongst us now is shameful. They’ve been legitimised by recent movements and now use any tragedy like this one to push their racist views as a reason we should push hate toward those who aren’t white. There’s never any responsibility and there’s never any climb down from them. They decided to use this attack to spread their bricky little views and decided this chap must be an asylum seeker because he wasn’t white, that was all it took.

All summer many of these people have called themselves patriots and said we should be proud of our country, its people like them that mean I’ve never been so ashamed of it.

As much as I hate speculating, I'd wager there is some form of schizophrenia going on there too.
Yet 3 times on Friday and Saturday this person has threatened people with a knife but has not been arrested and then has gone on to do what he has done on the train

What exactly were Cambridgeshire police doing ??

My guess without knowing would be searching for him unless you know differently. Sometimes it takes days or even weeks to find people

Beyond incompetence if true.
And scary, as yes, police are busy, underfunded yada yada...but a fella walking round with a knife, and I'm sure coming across as slightly deranged is straight to the top of the list of 'protect the fudging public'

Agreed but how do we know the police weren't trying to find him. How about we get all the facts first before condeming the police

For both the barber incidents he was hanging around outside for a while before and afterwards, surely a man threatening people with a knife deserves an immediate response from the police, underfunded or not !!

Absolutely I agree with you the police should respond asap. They may have a perfectly good reason as to why they didn't attend as quickly as the public would like. I don't think condeming the police before all the facts are known gets us anywhere.

Whilst this is the obvious thought, the underfunding can actually be linked here. There would be x amount of police officers on shift able to respond, this WOULD be a high priority call for them, but that doesn’t mean anyone is available in the time frame in which he is still there.

It could be that other units are at high risk domestics, missing persons any number of things. All of which in retrospect will sound less important, but at the time careful risk assessments are done.

For the avoidance of doubt, im not saying there is less risk to a man with a knife than these calls, im saying that it could be that it was deemed urgent, but if the resource box is empty at that particular time, its empty. We need to hear from the police the reasons as to why there wasn’t a quicker response to the earlier calls, cant really speculate too deeply in the meantime.

Though I do think this will be the next thing actually, those who wanted to blame asylum seekers will go quiet on that and make this a ‘police failures’ thing now. (That’s not aimed at you by the way, I’m talking generally).

Samir Zitouni was the rail worker who saved mutiple lives. Some of you priks would have had him deported. Muslim. Brown skinned. Everything you have been convinced to hate.

Imagine the devastation of the Farage-Yaxley-Lennonistas hearing that news. They will be absolutely disconsolate that their ex-forces beefy train guard hero has turned out to be North African Arabic. Expect conspiracy theories that the whole episode is actually a hoax any time now.

It was also Peterborough. You don't tend to get big police concentrations in leafy middle class areas like that.

In the BBC article first posted about the barber shop incidents it said that the initial ‘visit’ wasn’t reported to the police until a good while after he had left.
When he reappeared in the morning the police were called and attended and questioned him but it seems he didn’t have the knife on him then and he was let go. Quite how it wasn’t joined up to the incident of the night before and the shop’s CCTV evidence I don’t understand. Maybe incompetence, maybe a breakdown in communication, maybe simple human error. It will all come out eventually but it is worrying when it is all under the remit of one police force. I can understand how Peterborough police wouldn’t be aware of the Pontoon Dock DLR incident but knife incidents on their own patch should be known about.

To be fair it’s one of the first things I thought, I don’t hide or lie behind it. Only because due to recent form. It was a horrific event and anyone that causes harm to anyone else should be removed from society.
