So, what happened today?

Do it mate! iirc @glasgowspur does something similar, I can't remember if it's Air fix or possibly trains. It's hugely rewarding and as you say, great for clearing the head. I listen to either the GG podcast or Empire (which is always fascinating) whilst painting, if the budget allows for it and you can carve out the time you won't regret it. Ironically typed whilst looking at a screen I will say it's huge to have more hobbies that don't revolve around staring at screens. Not to judge too hard as it's just life these days but I worry about those folks who just work all day, go home veg out in front of the TV whilst on their phone to then to the same thing the next day, and the next, it's not much of a life imo.

Any hobby based around models can be rather expensive but its less money than what I used to spend on booze along with other recreational drugs and you have something to show at the end of it other than vague memories of arguments and a hangover!

No worries! Yeah I can see why people are into Lego, especially the big ol' centerpiece kits like a big fudge off millennium falcon or death star.

If there's already a Warhammer club then that's a great start, but also worth considering d&d, I've never played it but it's more of a workout for your imagination from what I understand. It's not surprising all of this stuff has come back in to vogue (not the magazine before anyone gets mixed up), great way to meet people and indirectly pick up all sorts of skills.

Never knew what d&d was until I watched big bang theory, that looks like so much fun.

Dnd hadn't played since I was in school. But watched a bit of critical role (voice actors playing the game on youtube). Thought I'd see if my mates wanted to play. The starter pack was £20 or so.
6 of us 40s to 60. Some never finished school. tinkled out of our nuts with some other drugs floating about. We all had a great time. 8 hours the first game. Went on for a couple of months.

Should do it again but being a dm can be hard work. Everyone being there is even harder. Life gets in the way.

I used to play for Sutton Wanderers (spent a season at Epsom Eagles before returning to Wanderers in a Robbie Keane "didn't work out" way )
Yes - so we were that league too - Epsom and Ewell. We were dominated by Carshalton but we did win the cup in 1982 at Epsom and Ewells pitch v Stoneleigh (I even scored)!

Apologies for parochial football chat!

Listened to my first podcast this morning, took my son and his family to Gatwick and he played it for me. He selected a good one for me as it was Danny Kelly and he knew I liked him from when he worked at NME. It initiated a discussion about which of our keepers wore caps, I could only think of Keller. Don't remember it being much of a problem at WHL apart from when West Stand was knocked down and winter sunset was in spectators eyes.

I’m going to say Ray Clemence used to wear a cap but no photos.

Your now down with the kids
What did you make of the podcast as a concept?

Nah they had a digital keyboard set up from what I could tell (Nords) but it was great

I’ve never listened to it stand alone I like some other film scores but it really stands out

I actually play a Roland RD-2000. To be fair, Nord is probably the best digital keyboard / stage piano. I think my RD-2000 is the best value for money though. It has over 1100 different tones in it, plus you have your own tone designer. The sounds are amazing and you can work with 2 XLR cables and push everything through the PA in stereo.

My next purchase will be the Roland AX Edge Keytar. That will sit on top of the RD-2000.

I’ve got a microkorg
Does what we need
Used to use an iPad through a controller and used garageband
That was brilliant too

Nice. What are you playing on that?

Nice. What are you playing on that?

I play in an Alanis tribute band in the south-east of the UK (Jagged Little Alanis). I also play in a pub band and a blues band. I dep for another 3 or 4 bands and am constantly sitting in house bands for open mics. Most of the songs go in as programs into the RD-2000 and I then have Mobile Sheets on the iPad to host all of the setlists. I have somewhere between 300 and 400 songs from different genres that I've performed at some stage in the last 18 months since I started.

It's a real mixed bag. If I'm doing something like Great Balls of Fire, then I just have the grand piano on and no program. If I'm doing Insomnia then I have 8 different tones all working together on different parts of the 8 octaves. Other cool programs are Cars and Are Friends Electric by Numan. The newest one for our pub band will be Blinding Lights by The Weeknd.

So do you play?

It was fine, but then the main presenter was a trained journalist and broadcaster talking about a subject we both like, plus I know and like him from our time at the same firm and in the pub. Obviously it works as so many people listen to them, I probably will listen again when I'm in my sons car as I can't be bothered to load much on tablet or phone.

It’s a good pod
They spend money making it too
The glory glory pod is worth a listen and I’m not saying it because the guys are on here.
Some are real negative about everything (spurs show) but the one the guys do is much more positive and real world IMO

Nice one that. I have a Yamaha CP300 and an old Korg CX3, and I sadly never have time to use them. I kept them myself when I sold my sound hire company. The CX3 at least gets used quite a bit, as I often hire it out for concerts, as Hammonds B3 and Leslie are few and far between, and a pain in the ass to move around.
Still regret I didn't keep the Fender Rhodes! It was old, but in absolutely mint condition!
