The transfer thread

He better play Moore or Yang today. I wanna see Yang. None of this 4 senior forward players fit.

We have
Son
Yang
Richie
Moore
Kulu
Madders

More than enough to beat this woeful Leicester side.

Yeah I see both sides of the coin. But in a weird way I find the fact we haven't just gone into the market and signed anyone available just to get bodies in as a positive. This is something we have done in the past, but excluding Werner (which I think was this type of signing and a flipping expensive one) all of our incomings these days seem to be of a specific profile and we seem to want to stick to that regardless of situation.

We can only hope that players continue to come back from here on in until the end of the season and we have overseen the worst of it....

It's a great point, and how I feel as well. The signs are there that we can start acting like a big club and sitting on our wallets. When you think about that data model, it should have some real specificity to what we need, which means it's a smaller pool of players to choose from. It's a bit like facial recognition. You can turn the algorithms down so a 67% match opens the door, but you do want to keep them way up so you get the right match coming through the door.

I guess the other aspect is budgets. I'm a little unsure what current budgets allow actually.

It doesn't matter anymore.
We fudged it by not being ready to strike early in this window. We've left this to the winds of luck and fortitude. If we come through then 'see, we never needed anyone', if we don't 'it's Ange's fault'...meanwhile Lange hides behind his data...

COYS and here's hoping the fortitude wins through.
This is not a very us vs them comment comrade!

We can be as ready to strike as much as we want, but if the other club don't want to sell or want string it out to last minute there is nothing we can do about it.
Looking at the desperate state of our squad atm would you not leverage that to get the absolute best deal for your club?

In life its hard to do a deal between 2 sides with 3or more it gets even harder, someone will not get what they want unless 2 of the parties aren't worried about the money. You've just got to look how hard it is to buy a house or car.

My argument has always been that this work should've been done in Nov/Dec.

Haha what a load of nonsense. If it was so easy to prepare transfers in the run up to Jan, every side would sign players on Jan 1st. Yet they don’t.

There are moving parts - other offers, replacements that mean transfers often get flushed out only at the deadline.

We did sign a player early in Jan however.

I would like to remind everybody that Nico Williams has a 50m euros release clause. He does have a salary that would be around our "wage cap", but this can be mitigated by giving him a big signing bonus. Would he have wanted to come to us last summer? We don't know, because Levy was to busy worrying about his imaginary and unnecessary wage cap, as we are în the top 10 richest clubs în the world. He is fairly young too, but Levy is only interested în building for the future if the future doesn't ask for a lot of money. How many players like him, where we refuse to at least attempt to sign them because of their wage demands? Can you have the best în any field without paying top salaries?

If Williams was on the move he'd have had suitors at bigger/richer clubs than us so it's a moot point but you or I have no idea whether or not anyone at the club had made contact with his people to sound out whether or not he would have been open to a move.

I'm hoping that the danger we face in the league, will help Levy to loosen his purse strings.

During negotiations next week, there will come a time when Levy/Munn/etc are balking at the cost of a deal, but will have to swallow it, as we desperately need some good news.

PS - Sarr was unfit to play today, so we could have played Donley in midfield if we recalled him. He's a really good player and needs his chance to shine. Today was a good chance for that. Ditto Devine, if we recalled him. Both are better than what we saw today.

We need some bodies. Even if it is for 3 games, we need to recall some players and bulk out the squad. We couldn't even name 9 subs today, with a load of debutants on the bench.

That’s a club call
Don’t get it myself
Veliz is on loan and learning minimal in a team that didn’t seem to want him
Did we name Scarlett on the bench today…no but we could have

If we'd named Scarlett, he wouldnt have been able to go on loan again, as you can only play for 2 clubs in one season

There aren't that many richer clubs than us, we are în the top 10 în the world. How are you supose to have the top guys în any field if you don't pay top salaries?

Only problem is how many top players, which is what we need, will come to a relegation battle.

Depends on who we want to sign. What the reasons are for those "delays". Imo we don't know.

For sure there are deals we could have done early in the window. But if the deals we could have done then are seen as lesser deals for lesser players than we could do late in the window I'm not convinced pushing through the early deals is the righ thing to do.

For sure the scouting/target identification work was already being done in Nov/Dec. But the actual deals? That almost never happens. For a multitude of reasons.
