The transfer thread

See what I mean... not a lot left.

What happened to Lange and his data led list of targets etc? You can't use the 'not available mid season' excuse for all of them!
I think it's a very fair excuse, our targets will be players of quality and a younger age of which quite a few teams will be interested and the players will know this. Why would any of them come to us mid season when we are 15th? These deals are hard enough to do mid season when we are challenging for top 4. Any player with sense would hold off until the summer to see whether a better club comes in or Spurs look like a better prospect rather than rush in to join us mid season when we could even get roped into a relegation scrap.

Then ends up being a question of signing a squad filler whilst we have all these injuries which apparently should clean up somewhat in the next couple of weeks or just don't sign anyone. I'd rather we just wait until the summer....

Some probably were available I imagine. But the January tax, and the injury tax too knowing we are short on numbers and the price gets hiked up. Probably too much for us to swallow.

I’m surprisingly calm about the whole thing. Maybe it’s age I don’t know. But in years gone by I’d be fretting. Not this time. In the grand scheme of life how important is the January transfer window really. I’ll still love the club either way

Of course, I am usually highly sceptical with 'links'. But it does come from Romano who is one of the select few I'd listen to, but hoping he's wrong on this occasion.....
I still don't understand how that guy made his career! Just suddenly appeared from nowhere a few years ago, and appeared to have inside knowledge from everyone. Really weird.

Yeah I've come around to the thinking that the lack of signings is actually a sign of a proper plan, rather than the absence of one. We have our targets, they're not gettable for the moment for whatever reason. But we don't panic and just buy anyone. Bide our time and get the ones we really want.

The idea that this window is a disaster is a bit lost on me. We needed players 2 or 3 weeks ago. But now we're at the end of the crazy period of matches and injuries. Barring another major disaster like we've just had, we'll have a very good squad to navigate the rest of the season. Hopefully get into the top half and win a cup.

Agree. When has a brick the bed January transfer ever contributed anything anyway? Nelson, Pienaar, Danjuma, Werner etc.

Id def stick the course of long term targets, or no one. We've got a strong squad, if the manager just learned a bit about how not to break them

Some of them have contributed somewhat, but can't remember someone being really valuable. Makes sense for cheaper "can't get anyone better" signings of course.

Agree on sticking to the long term targets. Unless some deal for a really good profile fit, but not great cheaper deal can be done.
