The transfer thread

Tomori doesn't need to displace Romero or VdV, he needs to displace a child midfielder playing CB, a great servant of the club in the autumn/winter if his career, a very hot and cold defender who's agent is seeing someone different from me, or a LB who's injured and form isn't great.

If he doesn't back himself to get in the team regularly against that backdrop, then I don't see why we would want him.

I get your point but that only applies for this season. We have VDV, Romero and Dragusin who are the main three. We have Phillips who is now a regular in the Championship and will want to make a step up next season. Then we have Vuskovic who is a bit younger but anything seems possible with him. I'm sure Dorrington will get another loan after this one. As for Davies, we've already extended his contract until the end of next season.

What we're basically saying is that we need to win a cup and get into UEFA comps to keep everyone happy anyway. Adding one more will make it interesting. We could perhaps see Dragusin eventually leave the club. Perhaps Phillips isn't as rated as we thought either.

Tomori would be a safe but not spectacular signing. He's not what I imagined us buying at this phase of the project.

I dont think he's worried about competition, He's probably more worried about going from Milan where he just won a trophy to going to the bottom of the PL. I'd weigh up my options for a few days too lol
Has chances here to win a trophy
Doubt he considers the super coppa as a trophy. Isn’t it their charity shield?
Milan are not the Milan most of us grew up with and they want to sell

Dragusiin will be sold if we sign Tomori
We then have a couple of youngsters to make up the squad
He is much more than safe imo and is clearly under rated over here
Super versatile and ball playing
IMO…. Exactly the kind of player we have been missing in defence
This is the smart signing that Pool make and we have kittens about

My point is really that he'd have 6 months to cement his place and prove his worth to the team, pretty much a free hit for him. Phillips and Dorringron are unproven at this level and Vusk looks great, but is young and may have stall/setback moments. Where else could he go and say that?

I'll keep an open mind. When I've watched him, I've not seen the ball playing centre half people talk about, especially in tight spaces. He's one of those that doesn't have that as a weakness but doesn't excel at it so much either.

66 days out with a hamstring last season as well. The word "hip" appears in his injury history as well. I hope he's durable enough.

If it was a loan move, I agree. Aren't they talking about a permanent move though?

Think I'm with Bedford on this in that this could see the Dragusin moving on in the summer. Where it gets interesting is when we buy another LB in the summer.

So players are more prepared to stay at a club they can't get games at than come yo Spurs, that is not a good look.

As I just put on the Tel post, we need to take stock of where we are. We've done an amazing job to reverse a brand that youngsters wouldn't want to join us. We're now one of the go to clubs for U21s as they're seeing proof that they can get early breakthroughs in their career. I couldn't imagine writing this after the Jose / Conte years.

Now we need to do the same with the senior or even elite players. We haven't quite got a story to tell to get them across the line and join our project, especially after they've already made one big move e.g. Tel from Rennes to BM. That kid is 19 and should just get his head down at his current club in my opinion.

Whilst I'd like a couple of elite 21-26 year olds to fortify what we have, if we can't get them then just keep buying young players like Dibling. These kids won't stay young forever.

Maybe his coach was mismanaging him or their fitness team washed very good … yep I’m being sarcastic
Could just be that he got injured playing
Does worry me that you actually checked that out TBH (and I mean that respectfully)
Fans feeling the need to check out injury records for signing says a lot about how football is going and this club for sure

When we played Milan in the CL he stood out for me because we got nothing down his side

If you're an elite player or on the verge of hitting that status why would you join Spurs? Those sort of players never have under ENIC and even rarely did under Sugar. Now consider the chaos that Spurs have been over the last 6 years. The various managers with differing unmatched by the club philosophies add to that we don't pay the wages to entice such players to choose us over other options and if I were such a player I can't see myself committing my next move to Spurs.

We are going to have to rebuild our footballing status before we are attractive to such players. We need to regularly qualify for Europe at a minimum. It probably means going all in on the younger player model from clubs lower down on the food chain. It also means sorting out the managerial situation. We need someone who can work within the confines of the club setup but also maximise the situation in the mould of a Poch. Ange is yet to do that, he's been the opposite, we are performing below reasonable expectations of par and that's not even taking into account the injury situation, once again you might be wary of joining and potentially picking up one of those hamstring tears that seem to be given away like candy at Spurs.

If I'm a player and not a fan Tottenham is a big risk that if I have options, is one I'm probably not taking.

Going to have to accept that regardless of being in all cup competitions, in the middle of the season sitting in 15th place the level of player we would like to attract is severely unlikely to want to come.

In the summer I think we would have a better chance again with this profile of player as hopefully our PL status will be confirmed plus a couple of trophies to show off to them too ;). But right now I think it would be a case of getting average joe players in just for numbers, perhaps with the exception of Dibling if there is a deal to be done there and with a lot of our players due to return within the next couple of weeks probably better off keeping our powder dry until the summer.....
