Transfer Rumour Thread

I think having Walker playing behind actually helps him (Kranjcar).

I hate to come across as always bashing Lennon but I don't understand the free pass he gets with our supporters. He plays the occasional blinder but more often than not he does next to nothing. Niko has just played very well in his place and everyone wants to just slot Lennon right back in the starting 11?

This..we did just thrash a good Saudi Sportswashing Machine team with him there. IMO Niko should keep his place there and Lennon can be brought on as a sub if needed.

But a winger goes past people and whips crosses in or at the very least whips crosses in. Not slagging Niko cos I like him in our squad but it's not his strength. Funny he played in those 2 thrashings though. Did he play the winger role in either? Against Saudi Sportswashing Machine he drifted in quite a lot which is my point?

Well yes he started there but he did drift a lot and him and Bale like to change sides throughout the match, it is a different look from a conventional winger but it has worked quite well this year.

Long may it continue especially with results like that. We're on fire though with 2 pacy wingers and with no Azza we look too predictable and narrow. Hope HR sorts it in the summer.

What we need is a 3rd player who can rotate with Lennon and Bale given that next year we'll have 38 league games plus Cl plus some cup games. Thought we should have tried to get Marin - he can play both sides and in the Rafa role.

Marin doesn't even get in the Bremen team much anymore. Think he just had the game of his career against us.

What's his crossing like?

Only seen him play twice, but looked decent enough. On a scale from Beckham to Walcott I'd put him about half way.

il give you a name that no-one seems to have mentioned

Dries Mertens, Belgian winger playing at PSV

currently ripping it up in Holland, kind of a late developer but still only 24 or 25, has a touch of the Overmaars about him(however is not as explosive as Overmaars at his peak)

can play left and right wing and is very effective and productive

one to watch, check him out

i'm more than a little surprised at the way your seeing things with regards to that position.....is there a reason that it MUST be a winger on the right?

Kicking off with someone I was hoping we WOULDN'T sign and looks like I got my wish:

Blackburn Rovers defender Christopher Samba joining Anzhi Makhachkala in ?ú12 million deal

Christopher Samba is to leave Blackburn Rovers on Thursday in a surprise ?ú12 million move to the cash-rich Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala.

Thursday night was the deadline for the closure of the Russian transfer window, which stays open longer than the rest of Europe. It means that the move is the biggest involving a Premier League club during the mid-season window.

Talks have progressed between Blackburn and Anzhi over the past few days, with Samba desperate to leave the Premier League club, having submitted a transfer request in January in the hope of moving to Queens Park Rangers or, possibly, Tottenham, who eventually signed his former team-mate Ryan Nelsen on a free transfer after his contract was cancelled.

SambaÔÇÖs transfer request was rejected by Blackburn, who insisted that the club captain was not for sale, but it is understood that there was always a valuation which, if met, would lead to SambaÔÇÖs departure. Blackburn wanted ?ú15 million but have now accepted ?ú12 million.

Although the 27-year-old Congo international has not played for Blackburn since their 2-1 defeat against Stoke City on Jan 2, the clubÔÇÖs supporters had hoped that he would be reintegrated into the side to help stave off the threat of relegation.

Samba made it clear, however, that he had no intention of playing for Blackburn again, insisting it was time for him to face a ÔÇ£new challengeÔÇØ and criticising the clubÔÇÖs owners and the lack of progress being made. He has claimed to have suffered from a series of setbacks and injuries in recent weeks.

This prompted a response from Blackburn manager Steve Kean, who said, ÔÇ£heÔÇÖs not for sale, as simply as thatÔÇØ. The club remarked that Samba, who joined five years ago from Hertha Berlin for a fee of only ?ú400,000, had signed a new deal only last year and was contracted until 2015.

SambaÔÇÖs departure will anger Blackburn supporters, who had hoped that the closure of the window meant he would stay, at least for now. They are deeply concerned at the apparent draining of talent, and lack of investment, at the club. Junior Hoilett is also expected to depart this summer when his contract expires.

Blackburn are 17th in the Premier League, having hauled themselves out of the relegation places although only goal difference separates them from the bottom three . They face league leaders Emirates Marketing Project away tomorrow.

Anzhi have just appointed Guus Hiddink as their new coach and are determined, with the backing of billionaire owner Suleyman Kerimov, to become a force in European football. The club have also discussed a move for ArsenalÔÇÖs Andrei Arshavin but the midfielder is understood to be resistant to the move.

Samba, however, is keen to join Anzhi, who will vastly increase his wages.

He will join players such as BrazilÔÇÖs World Cup 2002 winner Roberto Carlos, former Chelsea full-back Yuri Zhirkov and striker Samuel EtoÔÇÖo at Anzhi, who are seventh in the Russian Premier League. HiddinkÔÇÖs first match in charge is on March 5 against Dynamo Moscow when the season recommences after the winter break.

Good move on the transfer rumour thread, we needed one.

I didn't really want Samba, but it's still a shame to see him go to Russia if this is true.

fudge Anzhi, I reckon if it weren't for the crazy money they'd be paying him Eto'o may have been up for the challenge...if my auntie had gonads etc of course though.

I was thinking we laugh at journalists and discuss tranfers in this one and when the ITKs come crawling out from hiding in June they can have their own.

Emmanuel Adebayor is keen to reach an agreement to stay at Tottenham but the club would have to break their current wage limit in order to sign him permanently from Emirates Marketing Project.

The former Arsenal striker has just 13 Premier League games remaining of his season-long loan spell - the first of which is the derby against his old club at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

At present, about ?ú105,000 of Adebayor's ?ú175,000-a-week wage is paid by City, as Tottenham's top earners collect about ?ú70,000 a week, although that ceiling is likely to be raised if the club qualify for the Champions League for the second time in three seasons.

Adebayor has one year left on his contract in Manchester and Standard Sport understands his preference would be to remain in the capital.

The Togo striker feels settled in north London, where he lives with his wife and young daughter, and the prospect of playing in Europe's major club
competition - in which he represented Real Madrid during a loan last season - is appealing. After spells in Manchester and Madrid, it is thought Adebayor would prefer to remain in London than have to move again to another city.

Adebayor has also been heartened by the welcome he has received from Tottenham fans, despite his past with Arsenal. Harry Redknapp was the principal figure in persuading Adebayor to move to White Hart Lane last summer and with the Tottenham boss the favourite to become the next England manager, the squad are following the club's moves with interest.

There is willingness, therefore, on the part of Adebayor's advisors and Spurs to negotiate and discussions have taken place. Spurs would not match the salary Adebayor commands but a compromise could suit both sides.

Adebayor has been a key figure for Redknapp's side this season. His ability to make and take chances have made Spurs a serious threat in attack and the club will need a forward with the 27-year-old's qualities for their probable second Champions League campaign next season.

Napoli forward Edinson Cavani is another target but would cost about ?ú27m. Adebayor's contractual position means he could be secured for less. He will be keen to add to his 10 goals this term at Emirates Stadium on Sunday. A knee problem kept him out of the 0-0 draw at Stevenage in the FA Cup fifth round but Adebayor trained on Tuesday and yesterday.

Luka Modric is also winning his battle for fitness after flu kept him out of the Stevenage game.

Not sure if they're just regurgitating old material here. I wouldn't complain if we got Cavani either, though.
