Transfer thread

We did have Skipp and Sessegnon, who both for injury reasons never worked out, but in general that’s a pretty solid strategy.

But then you have to play them consistently in one position with patience so they can develop, something we have not been good at.

I really hope Gray is given that opportunity this season. He’s earned it IMO.
Skipp came through our club dont forget

I would not by any player this window who does step right into the starting XI.

I think we would be setting ourselves up for failure down the line and also needing 5/6 areas covered, I think that also looks like an unrealistic window. We need RW cover, unlikely we go and pay the money needed to drop Kudus down a level when we also need LW, Striker, GK starters, for example

From what I remember, club trained in the UEFA comps doesn't really kick in until you're 21 years old. With Gray and Bergval they would have been free pick B-lis this season as they're still U21 but have served 2 years with THFC registration. They would have freed up 2 spaces on the A-list. However, next season (27/28) they would have reverted to club trained of which we can have up to 4. Vuskovic would have hypothetically had to have been named on A-list as he needs to complete 2 years registration before he can move to the B-list. He is much younger.

So I do think we need to have a long hard think if we're on a multi-year journey to create a full quota (4) of club trained for UEFA comps and then sell guys like Bergval at the first smell of decent cash. Not for me.
UEFA Rules:

A club must register a minimum of 8 Homegrown players. These 8 spots must be a combination of Club Trained (CT) and Association Trained (AT) with a maximum of 4 spots being AT. This means each team must have a minimum of 4 CT players.

To qualify as CT, a player must:
1) spend three seasons or 36 months registered with the parent club between the ages of 15 and 21. Nationality does not matter.
2) loans to domestic teams do not affect this period
3) I couldn’t find a link on loans to teams from other UEFA leagues, but I believe a player can only spend two of the minimum three years spent on loan abroad. Plus not sure if Scotland, Wales or NI count as domestic or not.

Do you believe we will get 5/6 players as cover? I suppose it would possible if there is £250m in pot and anything we could realistically get together for unwanted players. I would be amazed.

Has anyone heard if any teams are screwed by PSR this summer? There's always a few clubs that have troubles like Villa, United and Saudi Sportswashing Machine in recent years. I wonder if any clubs will have to cash on someone they wouldn't normally want to sell. Maybe Saudi Sportswashing Machine selling Gordon helps them out PSR wise for example

The problem I have with Wilson is that was a one off numbers wise.

His previous seasons are 6 goals 1 assist and 4 goals and 6 assists

Not terrible numbers, but do we want to tie ourselves to someone for 3 years or so on the back of one excellent season.

As squad depth, absolutely, I think having someone like that on the bench or even starting gives you a very good base of player/depth of options.

But thats my point, I don't think we will get 5/6 players that come in to push the others down the pecking order and is a starter, but I think we will make 5/6 signings which is a mix of improvements and needed depth.

What you also want is overall no quality drop and players who can and WILL play the managers way
We have been missing the latter a lot IMO

I'm not against him as such, I think there is a risk we end up just panicking and stockpiling players here (that are better than what we have), but are all average, which screws us up for a few seasons transfer wise.

I think knowing what he is as a player is better than not knowing what it is we have and having the versatility with at least some guarantees of service that he has. For me, something like him and Senesi would be a great start to the window which allows us to then trade our way to better quality elsewhere

And this is it, its also having the numbers in quality in enough numbers that we can play that way and the squad not break down into pieces. Currently I don't look at our squad in confidence of balance to be able to play any real way for a long period because of either a lack of quality or a lack of depth

We're not going to solve all our problems in one window, and too many incomings just means too much disruption. Get 2/3 quality additions this summer, and 2/3 next summer.
Exactly, we’ve actually got a manager this season, that will help for starters, then the injured attacking players gradually coming back by Christmas.

Depending on sales of course, add 3 first team ready players in CM, CF and WF and we’ll be in and around the lower European shake up again. Then take the next step from there.
