U23s, Academy and Loanees

Love to see he is settling in at this level.
Indeed, it has taken a while but he is now there. This is why it makes me laugh when people talk about about the youths (such as Dorrington) coming into the first team. It has taken Donley, who was head and shoulders. the best player from out under 23s close to half a season to be ready to step up to div 1 football. The jump from age group football to PL is so much bigger than many fans realise

I have hopes for us in a few seasons time. Phillips the Croatian kid, Devine, Grey. The is a good basis for a team there.

Physically and mentally it's a massive jump that's why its important to pick the right time to blood youngsters, our current form and lack of experienced defenders is not the ideal time to just throw them in and hope for the best. Solanke needs a rest but I think Lankshear would struggle as he would not be getting any service like Solanke.

We are lacking 4 squad players currently who could add to, and step into the first 11

When you say 4, do you mean incremental or displacement of existing players?

Our production line looks something like this - Keeley/Gunter, Phillips/Dorrington/Vuskovic, Abbott/Devine/Donley/Olusesi, Moore/Yang, Scarlett/Lanks/Veliz.

Obviously, none of us really know how many of these 15 players graduate into the 1st team but signs are promising. If we had 4 incremental signings and 4 academy promotions then the 1st team squad will have 8 more players. That feels a lot.

As far as I’m aware … we have no left back coming through
We do have a couple of brilliant wide forwards coming through but they will need a couple of years so need one there IMO
I’d like to see another box to box type and an additional striker
I think donley could play the 10 role for us and displace Maddison
I’m convinced at least one of the two where backs on loan can step into the squad and if recall Philips in January for cover straight away
We have to make some calls on Veliz
He is on loan and learning
Same with Scarlett
They are young but are they gonna be squad ready next year? I’m not sure and I’m not the manager of course
I do think we can have the reserve goalie come from within. Gunter will be very good and we already have Keeley flying currently
I’d be looking at Mitchell on a reduced fee thsi jan for left back (out of contract in the summer)
I’d flog Richy as soon as we can and get Jonathan David in for a reduced fee too because of his contract
Is also get angel gomes and sell bentacur or Bissouma in the summer
The net outlay the change teh squad with their 3 additions if we sold well would be positive
That should allow us money to spend on other areas where we want players too
Maybe that much desired super DM or wide player

I agree with some of your suggestions but Richy is going to be very hard to shift and finding a couple who could hit the deck running looks hard in January which is when we need them. I like the look of Mitchell and he seems to have improved his attacking play, obviously most would like the Fulham LB.

I will add @Muttley im a huge fan of the youth team i saw last year
I went to 5 games and they were brilliant everyone because they really believed they would win every game
There was a maturity too
And that was without players like Devine, Moore and Philips who all would have qualified to play
I think half that team will oaky senior good eke k men’s football (2 are in Spain already and I think… think one is in Portugal)
We have a great great crop of 16/17 years olds coming through again from what I can see but it’s a phases
I’d love the men’s squad to be 25% HG players (including signings like Philips and Devine). I think it’s healthy and really complementary to what a club should do
