What's the excuse for out midfield being wide open consistently when neither of those two are in the line up?

I'm not sure it is an 'excuse' just a factor.

I'm not sure about occasions when they haven't been playing, I'd have to see the situations to assess.

What I've seen recently is an issue where two of our midfielders get caught ahead of the ball when the full back has also pushed up and that leaves the remaining central midfield player with too much space to cover. I thought it was noticeable how much more solid we looked in the second half last weekend against Villa when Bissouma came on and played far closer to Bentancur than Bergval was in the first half.

I think some have forgotten what the football actually looked like before the injuries. We were really no more secure than we are now.
From what I remember pre injuries the opposition's main gameplan to attack against us was to put balls into our channels behind our full backs.

Recently it appears to have more often been to utilise the space that exists centrally between our midfield and defence.

It happened centrally as well. I specifically recall the Saudi Sportswashing Machine game when a simple ball through the middle and Saudi Sportswashing Machine were through on goal.

Amazed that some carp and moan after that. A clean sheet, lots of players coming back but still missing 4 first teamers...and now safe from relegation. Maybe, just maybe, we saw the start of winning run....................
No just no. Don’t get carried away. A win against a very very poor Manchester United who carved us open like a ton of beans way too easily is not the start of anything

Two fairly attacking teams on the day imo. Even with a back three and two wing backs who defended fairly deep they had Fernandes as one of two central midfielders and "two strikers" (not quite perhaps, but close to it).

Them looking good going forward wasn't just us being vulnerable. They may be "very poor", but imo that doesn't mean they're not a real threat going forward.

Similarly us going with a fairly attacking lineup, even from the starting point of us usually being fairly attacking. Bergvall and Maddison in midfield. Then add us missing our two first choice centre backs. I think we would have looked a lot more solid with VdV and Romero.

Did you watch it. We were wide open and gave away so many clear cut open chances.

Against 14 of the 20 teams in the league you will lose mate.

If this is who we are mate then they need to reduce ticket prices to reflect our new standing.
