Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

This is the most I've ever seen a team continue to play for the manager. Usually they would have downed tools by now, but credit to him, Ange still has them believing...until the matches actually start and the tactics don't work.

He must really be a great motivator to have them plugged in for this amount of time in the face of the evidence that it doesn't work. Even after half time, they'll come out fired up.

What are the tactics you think aren’t working?
They aren’t playing the tactics we know Ange asks for
Right from the start it’s not happening
We haven’t played the way he wants us to play since last year
He is accountable for that as he is putting that team out there

I’m sure there are most of the players with similar stats in this game but this was on teletext
The tactics aren’t making him hit big fat zeros in every metric
That’s his current lack of desire or hunger or drive
And that’s the captain
And as I say, others will have equally bad numbers
That’s horrendous

I don't know what tactics he asks for, all I know is what I see every week.
Since it's 2 years in it's not unreasonable to think these are his tactics, or rather this is how his tactics look when they come up against a better quality of tactician then he's faced before.
If we're not playing the way he wants, then surely his position is still untenable cause it shows that he's unable to empart his methods.

I've spoke about the goal kicks, with the full backs high and tucked, but the ball going short so there's no easy wide option, that's tactical in my opinion.
We play nothing long and high, never turn the other team round.
For a supposed fast paced team the amount of counter attacking opportunities we don't take advantage of is criminal.
The one tactic I can identify is leaving on Johnson in the hope he gets on the end of a cross.

You have highlighted something there that nearly all teams do, The goal kicks
We haven’t invited the full backs in a long time. We may do it sometimes on goal kicks but that’s a tiny amount of the game
We don’t really counter attack. Not sure why but I think it’s because when we pass into midfield they like to hold the ball.
Maddison is the Jedi master at taking 5 touches when 2 would do for example. Again, IMO its not how they are being asked to play as that’s all safe and horrible
Johnson has been out for 2 months hasn’t he, so again, I’m not sure that’s a tactic. We don’t actually have any the option now on the right with Kulu injured which is mad with the volume of players we have brought
For me he lost his job here when he played 3 at the back vs Everton. That was him giving the players an excuse around the way they were meant to play and it’s why he will be gone this summer

This weekend is a game to get some players fit for Thursday so will be interesting to see which he picks
I do think he will still pick the same attack though and that’s worrying and inexcusable

Mentality in the club is consistently consistent
When it matters… it ain’t there
Remember the wonderful Reshad’s against the Belgian side so well known fans thought it was different city?
How about a club whose manager was just put in prison?
We buy players and they seem to adapt a minimum mind set
Then Conte was right.

While I can agree with that and other issues it comes down to one thing for me.

With Bill Clinton it was famously the "economy stupid"

I want to say to Ange "it's the tactics stupid"

I fully believe Levy, the board even you and me as fans can be partly to blame. But the tactics this guy puts out are criminal.

It certainly does feel the longer this goes on that (in my case) seeing that particular wood for those particular trees is wholly appropriate.

Then Conte was right.

Conte knows how the club is run, knew the parameters, knew the lay of the land, still took the job and engineered a cut and run with one of the most cowardly explosions I have ever seen from a 'top' manager (even managing to outdo Mourinho). The LEAST he could've done given that he took our money was show some respect OR have had that outburst the first MOMENT he didn't get what he wanted.

It’s my frustration when people talk about him
This was a guy who clearly thought the club and by definition is as fans were beneath him
If he doesn’t win the league the year he will blow his top again
The guys a nutter

On point! I have NO time for him at all (partially because I 'bought in' hoping he might be 'different' to what I knew of him, only to get another lesson in leopards and spots)...

Is style of play just does not work and frankly since November it is obvious when watching us play because the is no system.

I so wanted him to be the answer but he is actually clueless.

I remember that Mecky’s interview early in Ange job here when we were flying and he talked about learning multiple ways to progress the ball from the back. Now we seem clueless in every third on the ground ( progressing the ball, keeping possession and final third moves )
I am not sure what the coaches doing one the training sessions and what he asks from the players right now.

I saw a team last night that thought they just had to turn up to win the game. AZ played with much more intensity and bravery than we did. Luckily the game is over two legs and I doubt the players will take them so lightly next time (I've no idea why they did take them so lightly seeing as they knocked out Galatasary over two legs in the previous round).

My view was that the players froze. How many times have we seen it over the years? The hype around this game being the biggest game of our season, a must win etc on the back of a pretty awful few months with confidence still extremely low (despite a few wins recently) would make even the best player think twice about taking a risk, making that run into space etc.

That’s a big failing of Ange…he’s got great experience of getting teams up for big games, building them up. He’s failed to do it against Liverpool, Villa and now AZ.

I can certainly respect that opinion.
I was always prepared to give him a lot of slack because of the injury situation (the debate about how those injuries came about is a whole other thread LOL) but now we are seeing players come back, and targets narrowed in terms of what's left in the season so succeed in, I have to say he is, indeed, coming up short judging by Thursday.
