Ten England supporters have been taken to hospital in Sao Paulo after they were attacked by local hooligans.

Eyewitnesses have told Goal that a Brazilian gang appeared to throw an explosive towards a group of England supporters near the fan fest in Sao Paulo city centre.

The extent of the injuries sustained is unknown, but local authorities have confirmed that 10 fans have been taken to hospital requiring treatment.

Police arrested a 14 people accused of participating in the incident, with the assilants dressed all in black and carrying other explosive devices with them.

The incident happened hours before England's World Cup Group D clash against Uruguay in Sao Paulo.

Local reports suggested the hooligans caused damage to shops and a bus as they tried to escape from the police.

Stadium is on the outskirts near a lot of the displaced favelas…I'm surprised there hasn't been more of this but grateful. Shame for those targeted, hope they're OK. The favelas outside Sao Paulo are massive, stretch for miles in places…not sure how many were bulldozed for the World Cup, but these are/were towns in their own rights so people are angry about that too.

Meant to be shed loads demolished for the Olympics in 2 years time, most of the Athletes village is where the favela's are right now, that will be interesting

Tonight is the night for Rooney to show the bunch of jokers who had a go at him what he is capable of in his correct position.

Not just this game, but the music they play when the players come onto the pitch could have come straight from Epcot. :)

His tenth appearance at a WC final tonight I believe. Still not scored.

Boring so far. Neither team have managed to string much more than two-three passes together. Looks a very nervous bunch of players - think this game would benefit from an England goal.

was always going to be nervy..whoever loses could effectively be out.

Not made any better by having a die-hard Liverpool fan commentating.

True that. Although you'd think Uruguay would be more eager to win, with Italy in their final game.

Let's hope for a goal at least before half time!
