What a difference a year makes… hopefully by next December we’ll have the new Rodri as #6 who makes everything click.

We've conceded 25 goals all season, 19 since the beginning of November. Which I believe coincides with our injuries piling up?

So, in the 9 games before the beginning of November we conceded only 6 goals?

We had a very good record until recently
We have lost one game by more than one goal and that was the pool game
People talk about goals conceded but not scored …
We have conceded 13 in our last 3 home games
But scored 10
Not good
But… that includes 2 penalties ok the Chelsea game
And 2 Forster howlers on the United game
That’s before trying to critically analyse Thursdays game

VdV was hurt on October 30th. Romero was hurt on Nov 3rd. We have only seen them once since, for minutes against Chelsea in Romero's case (VdV lasted a bit longer). That's without the other key injuries...

And if we’re honest they are the answer or the reason
It’s a multitude of factors
The lack do any options to change players hurts as much as anything

According to Danny Kelly on today’s View From the Lane, our record in the last 17 league games of last season was W7 L8 D2. Our record for the first 17 league games of this season is W7 L8 D2.

Doesn’t look like the excellent xGs and goals scored are gaining us any more points.

No
Because of fine margins
And that’s normal for a team that’s being developed
I’ve tried it avoid saying this but fudge it… this It is so similar to the period when arsenal fans wanting Arteta gone and the club even met with Poch. No idea why they didn’t take him but they were thinking about changing and their fan base wanted it in many cases. Only thing that’s different is that their fans were more vocal in the ground and they had AFTV milking it to

Arteta had also won a trophy. Also he wasn't losing more games than he was winning.

THAT, my friend, is your fatal flaw... ;) :tearsofjoy:

That figure is from 12 months ago, after we lost 2-4 at Brighton, at which point we’d conceded 28 goals from 19 PL games.

When he was at Celtic the hamstring problems apparently cleared up in Postecoglou’s 2nd season but that doesn’t appear to be the case at Spurs and just like last winter we’re once again without either Romero or van de Ven plus multiple other players.

Hopefully a few more astute signings will provide him with sufficient trustworthy options that Postecoglou can avoid redlining our players, although I’ll be content if he can lead us to a cup to match Brendan Rodgers achievements south of the border.

That line made me laugh. He does remind me of my old, pipe smoking slightly overweight high school PE teacher.
Trust me it brings back memories … there was once a lady who replaced our P.E. Teacher for a term due to one thing or another … she wanted to revolutionise football tactics and got us playing 2-3-5 … thinking she was a genius … we got smashed three games in a row, and when we complained she used to get angry and defensive about questioning her authority and insulting a woman’s intelligence… one day we all got together and quit together… leaving her on the sidelines that day going red in the face as the away team turned up.

Assembly the following day was interesting but no further action taken and we sacked off the football that year on the back of it.

Angela?

A lot of responses to my post blaming our injury crisis... seem to have forgotten what our form has been like for most of 2024? this isn't a THIS SEASON issue in my view. It's been throughout 2024, especially our away record.

How many away games have we won in 2024? Yes we whopped City but even outside of that, we've won a tiny proportion so it's not just an injury crisis issue because latter half of last season we were utter tosh. Our injury crisis is woeful i get that, but then manage with what you have. We all know Dragusin cannot play out from the back, how does it fundamentally help the team trying and failing at it? How does it help Gray improve by shipping 6 goals and continually running backwards towards his goal?

Also let's not ignore that Romero and VDV both injured because they were BOTH rushed back for Chelsea. Maybe one of them should have been brought back, but it's entirely on Ange both were brought back and then crocked for rest of December.

But that's just it, he won't

He must have known Spence, Gray and Dragusin plus a knackered Porro wasn't going to work in a high line, high press game against Liverpool's front line and the quality of Salah and Jota specifically.

Yet, in the end, no adjustment, to what end? just so we can say we play our way?

I completely agree with this. Again, i'm not saying Ange out but he's also losing the good will i do have for him.

I said this when i was at United game Thurs night. 3-0 up, United were dead mate, they wanted to head home they looked rocked by the 3rd goal. That's the time to pass around, sit deep, walk the game out.

Instead, we dont change our philosophy, we give away a goal playing out from the back with a goalkeeper notorious for not being able to play out from the back, and the game entirely changes and then instead of resting Kulu, Solanke, and the other key players they have to play an entire 90, both draining them mentally and physically effectively 2 days before Liverpool game.

I cannot stress how pointless this was. We were 3-0 and we broke United mentally with the 3rd. The start of the second half blew them away. Was absolutely pointless and we killed ourselves in the process and barely held on. We couldn't rest players TWO fudging DAYS before the top of the table came over because of the stubborness from the manager.

I'm sorry, but i can't see how this "we wont adapt" will ever succeed in the PL. Every team adapts. Especially the top 3.

Ultimately, is Ange getting us to be greater than the sum of our parts?
What parts
Right now he has a Lego model missing half the bits
And don’t give me the ball every team has injuries etc… because the facts are that the teams that have the least injuries have been the most consistent
What I will say is that I’m interning to the Tottenham way pod and they are talking about players improving under Ange. That’s a measure. For me we have seen kulu, Johnson, sarr and arguably Romero play better with Anges coaching
Can’t tell on many others fairly as some are his signings and on played for him (Solanke for example) and Romeo is debatable. I included brenna because he is. Better this season than last so progress imo
What we have also seen is players like son are struggling with age and volume plus of course being asked to play attacking football with the ball. But that was always gonna be an issue with any attacking manager and him.
I think we have seen bentacur have some great games under Ange and Biss too… but some poor ones
I think it’s fair to say the full backs have looked better under Ange but they weren’t really with previous managers very long to be judge there

And others
Buy I do think some senior pakyers haven’t fitted as well
Let’s pick on Maddison… went it goes well he is great
When it’s tough…. He is not even noticeable (at least sonny tries to get involved)
I still do not believe that Ange is the reasons Romero frequently leaves his man and goes wandering, but it’s happened now for 18 months
Could be younger players are more able to be coached into new ways of playing
What I will say is that Maddison and son excelled in teams that played counter attacking football so really aren’t used to seeing the ball as Michael s they do here

The ones that really worry me are Bissouma and Bentacur. A hugely key role and for every good 60 minutes we see them play they will have a bad next 10 before being subbed. That may well be because of the work they are being asked to do but bissouma passed the ball to two pool players in the first 17 minutes on Sunday. That can’t be match fatigue but could be something else including technical capabilities
It’s why I’d love to see, but don’t expect it, the following … my panacea window
We recall Philips just to have that extra body here
We sell Richy for whatever we can get and use that money in January to go to Lille to get David and Gomes, the latter is HG and is a ball playing DM. The former is a striker in the Defoe mould IMO. Both are stars we lack players in that can do the basics for Ange ball
Then in the summer we keg Bissouma go and extend Bentacurs contract (he is more versatile) and we buy a left back, left wing and another DM
But that’s me planning for the possible as we know
