I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

Re: Official - Lamela

Because he thinks it's more likely that he will get short term results with the players he's worked with for half a season and knows well and that's all he cares about?

Because re-introducing a massive signing that's likely to be somewhat lacking in match fitness and put in an average performance doesn't impress anyone with the manager. Whereas introducing yet another youngster for his PL debut is something that can put Sherwood in a positive light?

I see, a conspiracy theory. Fine.

Here's what Sherwood said this morning:

“I haven’t seen him, he hasn’t trained with the group yet,” said the head coach. “It’s going to come too soon for Erik, unfortunately, the end of the season. The last thing you want to do is rush back.

“He’ll want to play, he certainly will, and everyone would love to see him play but it’s going to be too soon for him.

“Recently I spoke to our medical guys and I said in the close season we have five weeks off and then we come back and we have six weeks of pre-season, so someone who’s been out for 12 or 13 weeks surely can’t be fit in two or three days. It’s just not going to be possible, he’s not going to play this season."

So he's:

> Lying to the fans
> Lying to Levy in private
> Compounding that private lie by repeating it in public
> Neglecting Levy's £30m asset when we know how Levy reacts to such neglect from the Ade situation - he does not like it one bit
> He's also keeping all this from Franco Baldini, who is his de facto boss and the one with ultimate responsibility for these kinds of issues, and who is the one with the most to lose by Lamela's absence
> He's making liars and fools of the medical staff and specialists who say Erik is only just fit this week when in fact he has been, is, or shortly will be ready to play
> He's lying when he says that after 13 weeks out with a complex injury - in fact, it's a set of injuries because it was Lamela's thigh problem that caused the back problem - when the truth is that after being passed fit YESTERDAY, Lamela is fit to play TOMORROW
> He's sabotaging Spurs' season for his own selfish reasons, despite the fact his own fate and the teams fate are inextricably linked

Moreover, we're to believe that Lamela has been/is fit to play, and yet Lamela, his dad/agent and his gobby brother have all been completely quiet about that and just accept Sherwood's malice at the cost of Lamela's WC going down the pan.

There's only so much of this fukking nonsense that any reasonable person can be expected to listen to.

Re: Official - Lamela

Off the bench? Fairly regularly I would say.

How often do you see Premier League managers making judgements on if a player is ready to play or not before watching him in training instead of just having a look to see if he's ready to contribute or not.

Let's not forget we've had a player like Harry Winks on our bench recently. It's not like our bench is made up entirely of performing superstars.

1. Find me a player who has barely featured in a team all season when fit, who gets injured for 3 months and is back playing, even off the bench within 2 weeks.

2. What is the point in re-introducing someone for 15 minutes on the last game of the season when immediately following that is a period of rest then a pre-season where he will re-gain full fitness anyway. I would hazard a guess that he may be asked to come in earlier than the other players to get some extra work in, if he picks up an injury playing a pointless game at the end of the season because he's not yet match fit, that plan is out the window.

3. Introducing a youngster puts him in a positive light (and deservedly so) only if the youngster performs well. The obvious difference between this and the Lamela situation is that Lamela has been injured for more than 12 weeks in contrast, the youngster has been playing and performing regularly enough for TS to have made the decision to give him a chance.

Come on guys, I'm not Sherwoods biggest fan but this is getting ridiculous (not aimed at you directly Braineclipse)

Re: Official - Lamela

Tbf, since the Sandro "not really injured" incident (which only came to light fully after Sandro's tweet) trust in the face-value reason as to why exactly a player isn't in the squad is now in open season to be challenged.

If not for Sandro's tweet if anyone suggested he wasn't playing due to reasons other than an injury, there would have been the same reaction to any current suggestion that Sherwood is actively not playing despite being able to...

But neither Sherwood nor the club were saying Sandro was injured. Sherwood and the club insist practically every week that Lamela IS injured and not available for selection.

Re: Official - Lamela

I read the interview in full with Sherwood and it's really interesting to see how a journalist can distort things by just quoting a couple of lines from the press conference.

Chancer posted it further up the page and Tim actually said that the lad isn't going to play again this season because he's been out for so long without and football.
Now we are told that Lamela was passed fit yesterday by the Dr at Roma so it's unlikely that he will be back training with the team until next week. Even then he will have no match fitness and will be needing at least a few games for the U21's before being risked in competitive football.

On the other hand if we don't see him training for us before the end of the season then maybe questions could be asked, but at the moment every source seems to indicate that he really has been injured and that he really hasn't had any football (excluding keep ups in the park). The talksport reporter even states that the Spurs medical team came with him to Roma, so it's not like he has been behind our back, but the results of the assessment there will be back with Sherwood by now. There is now way he can claim otherwise as the manager, because the Spurs medical staff would've had to have told him.

Did the club say Sandro was injured? Did they insist that he has been injured for months? Did they take the lie to the extent that they sent Sandro to his old club to get specialist treatment?

Re: Official - Lamela

Chancer. I think some of the views in your posts are, erm, a bit not correct to say the least. Imo.

But you are a VERY classy poster=D>

Re: Official - Lamela

Ugh, this was a really obnoxious thing for me to say in the heat of the moment. Apologies to BE.

No worries chancer. I appreciate you noticing yourself and apologizing, but no offense taken.

I think you overstate how much of a "lie" it has to be to convince those around him and the media that "he's just not ready to play". But I agree that I cannot know for sure of course and as such it seems a bit of a conspiracy theory.

I just find it very strange for a manager/head coach to say about a player that has been deemed fit by the medical staff that he won't be ready before actually watching him in training.

Re: Official - Lamela

the conspiracy theories in this thread are hilarious. seriously what could we possibly gain by playing him these last few matches? He obviously won't be anywhere near match fit. Throwing him in a match at business end of the season he could possibly get hurt and even if not surely he won't be contributing much considering how long he has been out. For what? Just to see our 30 million pound man turn up in our shirt?

Best to just turn the page on this season, forget about it and see what he offers us after a full pre-season at full fitness

Re: Official - Lamela

I too think the conspiracy theories are silly. The guy has clearly been injured for much of the season which is a crying shame but there's not much can be done about it.

However, I am alarmed by the apparent lack of contact between Lamela and the club management. I get that he's not able to train with the rest of the team, but he's not been laid up in hospital for the past 5 months. Why hasn't he been availing of our state-of-the-art new training facility and doing light work-outs and swimming under supervision from our physios? By the sounds of things he's not been at the training ground at all since the injury. So how the hell is he supposed to integrate with the squad? Just because his training regime is restricted doesn't mean he should be isolated from the rest of them for half his debut season. He's going to arrive back for training (apparently without having made a great deal of progress learning English) and everything's still going to be relatively unfamiliar. He's been a Spurs player for almost a year and he still needs to spend time "settling in" by the sounds of things.

To me this is bad management of the situation (at all levels of the club - and it started with AVB, so it's not just Sherwood whose to blame).

Agree with you regarding his absence. The one thing though we keep hearing is his lack of grasping English language. Surely this is on Erik alone, especially if he wasn't able to train/play no excuse to not to his utmost to learn the language. I know the club has been very good at acclimating foreign players providing language coaches etc.. So it does beg the question. Does Erik really have it in his heart to succeed at Tottenham? I am not so sure personally I hope he does and will come good but clearly more questions than answers with this lad now.

Re: Official - Lamela

with pav, ramos, gds, now lamela....never got the feeling that the club knew how to acclimatize foreign players/managers to the club/london. in this day and age we have lots of young adults working globally - can't see how "homesickness" can interfere with modern day conveniences, but seems to be a plausible excuse at spurs.

They really are. You couldn't make it up. In a way, I hope Sherwood doesn't stay. He will get a gig somewhere. And then we'll get some dude with a whole load of questions and issues who the same people will moan about.

Okay, but you're making the mistake of a young, out going professional, who WANTS to work abroad and actively sought or chose that opportunity, to a kid who is pretty much a slave and goes wherever his agent tells him to for a quick buck.

Not everyone adapts well to new environments. My mother in law has lived in Bradford all her life and thinks its scary going to Leeds or Manchester - let alone abroad!

Any description of a top flight footballer that includes as comparison like this makes me throw up in my mouth a little.

Yeah, must admit I'd pay to watch it. I hear people would come from all over. And hey, win our last couple, and there will be lotsa panties in twists. ;)

Re: Official - Lamela

WOW. So much of what some suspected is true and nothing like the rumours.

1) Lamela arrived at the club injured and hid the injury so he could succeed.
2) By masking the weakness he ended up causing a back injury.
3) He was diagnosed with a FRACTURED VERTEBRA  just after the 29th of December.

Bloody hell, I said a while back that you don't rush back injuries, but had no idea how severe this lads one was. Now they don't specify what type of fracture he has had, although given that it seems to have been caused by muscles I doubt it is of the vertebral body but all the same it is fairly serious.
