It is my beleif that Sherwood is not playing Lamela because he simply doesn't fancy him as a player period.
I've checked his playing mintes under Sherwood and whilst there is an opinion that Sherwood gave him more game time than AVB plus his first PL start, he played 60 mins vs Soythampton, none vs west Brom (when he was on the bench) and then 15 mins vs Stoke (when he was unfairly blasted by Ade iirc).
Then since being on the bench vs Man u away he hasn't played at all..then injured...:-k
So not really much time under Sherwood and I think this contradiction with him not being fit to play according to Sherwood but other medics in roma etc saying otherwise is either Sherwood digging his heels in, or him being instructed by the board not to play him (a la Rebrov...)
Discuss....
My guess is;
He was genuinely injured.
Whilst he's recovering from an injury he cannot play therefore Sherwood didn't play him.
He's now recovered but hasn't trained so Sherwood can't play him, hence the "I haven’t seen him [Lamela], he hasn’t trained with the group yet. The last thing you want to do is rush back."
By the time he's match fit the season will be over hence the "It's going to come too soon for Erik, the end of the season"
It doesn't matter what Sherwood does in the last few games regarding Lamela, he's going to get abuse about it. If he doesn't play him because he's not match fit then he's ignoring our new wonder boy who will go on to be Gareth Bale. If he does play him and his injury comes back/gets a new one then he's destroyed our new wonder boy who will go on to be Gareth Bale.
If he plays him and he plays brilliantly the conspiracy theorists will exclaim 'look at that idiot TS pretending such a fantastic player was injured, we could have finished 4th if he hadn't done that'. If he's **** they will exclaim that TS 'is playing him in the wrong position or can't give him the correct instructions because he's too thick to learn spanish'.
The guy got injured. Now he's fit again, but he's not fit enough to play, and by the time he is, the season will be over. That's it.
sherwood is hell bent on making sure kane and bentaleb come through for his own future.
he doesn't have to be bothered with all the other internationals as they were not his decisions (except eriksen).
He hasn't played Bentaleb in the past three games, and in the past 3 games that he has played Kane in he's scored in all of them.
Does anyone ever think that he might just be picking the team that he feels will get the best results based on current form and player ability from a pool of players that are match fit?
Is that a bit too sensible or something?

@BenPearceSpurs: Sherwood reiterates once again that Lamela won't play again this season: "It's going to come too soon for Erik, the end of the season"

Sounds like he's just looking for an excuse to not play him to me.
Our last league game is still two weeks away, I'm guessing we sent him to Rome to have him assessed by a medical staff we somewhat trust. Sherwood can't watch him in training for two weeks and then include him? Really?
Even AVB had Lamela on the bench and gave him 10-15 minutes against against Arsenal just a couple of days after he signed. Not that uncommon for new signings to get a week or less before they get chucked in. But now two weeks isn't enough to give Lamela a run-out?
But Sherwood's still a clueless owl, though, right? :-k

You do realise he's been out INJURED for quite some time right? How often do you see players out for a lengthy period of time then back playing PL football within a week or two?
Why would Sherwood be looking for an excuse not to play him?
Breaking News:
The BBC's Natural History department have commissioned David Attenborough to do a documentary about the lesser spotted Lamela.
Off the bench? Fairly regularly I would say.
How often do you see Premier League managers making judgements on if a player is ready to play or not before watching him in training instead of just having a look to see if he's ready to contribute or not.
Let's not forget we've had a player like Harry Winks on our bench recently. It's not like our bench is made up entirely of performing superstars.
Because he thinks it's more likely that he will get short term results with the players he's worked with for half a season and knows well and that's all he cares about?
Because re-introducing a massive signing that's likely to be somewhat lacking in match fitness and put in an average performance doesn't impress anyone with the manager. Whereas introducing yet another youngster for his PL debut is something that can put Sherwood in a positive light?
