Jose Mourinho - SACKED

We all knew what style of play we were getting when Jose signed so we need to get over that.
It would be acceptable if we were doing better but at the moment it's hard to swallow.

What I can't understand, and this goes all the way back to the WHU game, is that we have had opportunities to kill other teams momentum (WHU) or punish them when they are on a bad run (Liverpool) and instead of being on the front foot early on and putting them under pressure we've given them the ball and let them come at us.
Liverpool hadn't won in seven or scored in seven hours, is that right?
If we go out there and attack them, put them under pressure and get the first goal I believe we could have given them a good beating and derailed their season.
So, push us up the table and put one of our main competition under pressure.
But it looked like we went out for damage limitation.
It was the same against Chelsea and Leicester.

I've said for years, there's an ingrained losers meteorology at the club. Goes higher than the players.

So are you saying that we had this. ‘Ingrained’ losers mentality before Poch?

Jesus i have heard it all now, a fan saying that IF we had been knocked out of the cups it would have been a negative, but even though we won through those games it can not be called a positive???????????.

I despair at some fans and the lengths they go to just to have a dig at the manager.

Sonny definitely didn’t look happy coming off after the Brighton game but was understandable and maybe because of the result or the role he was asked to play

think a lot of our players aren't happy and probably Jose has lost the dressing room. the team had 0 shots in first half of Brighton, the worst team at home in the League. Would you be happy?

We got to more semi finals and finals under Poch than any other manager didn’t we? Indeed I think one of the reasons we failed to get over the line under Poch may have been our paper thin squad going far in the cups as well as being in the top four so being physically spent at the business end of the season.

I agree to a point. Our first team was a match for anyone for the most part under Poch but the squad needed improvements. I don’t think that tells the full story though mate. No one player carried the team and led by example, if one player steps up then the rest follow. I believe Fergie said if 8 players play well in a game you probably win the match. Individually and collectively we didn’t step up in big games. Also think Poch’s subs, tactics, team selections and in-game management in the big games left a lot to be desired at times. We also got tired at the end of the season I feel because of the demands Poch puts on his players, Bielsa’s teams suffer from the same thing, Poch’s teams are eerily similar. Of course a better squad would have helped though.

Let’s not forget that Chelsea and Arsenal both won trophies plural during the Poch reign arguably with inferior squads at times. Arsenal beat city and Chelsea in the FA cup back to back to win it despite finishing 5th in the league and miles below Chelsea so I’m not sure the squad argument on its own stacks up.

The main thing of note in Miguel's Delaney's article https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...view-prediction-mourinho-tuchel-b1797298.html is that someone within the dressing room is leaking to journos about their dissatisfaction with his attacking instructions. We only got the players view of Poch (from the same dressing room) after Poch was sacked.

The rest of the article is stuff that anyone who has followed Mourinho would be already familar with.

Porto hadn't won the league for a while (at all in the Primera Liga era), or the CL for even longer.

Chelsea hadn't won the league for half a century.

Inter hadn't won the CL for 40+ years.

Madrid hadn't won the league for 4 years.

Chelsea only managed to win the league once whilst he was away, yet won it almost as soon as he came back.

United hadn't won a European trophy for nearly a decade.

could be another entry on this list tonight, it is nearly a decade since we last lost three consecutive league games...

Basically he did everything wrong. Surprisingly he won a lot of big games though, and he has just won a big one off game against Marseilles as PSG manager. Arteta won the FA cup last season yet finished miles behind us in the league. Does that make him a better big game manager than Poch? How about Di Matteo? Wining those one off games is often about luck rather than design. I think when you look at it we focussed on the big tournaments under Poch which brought in revenue but are more difficult to win. If he put all our efforts into the domestic competitions, I am sure he would have won a trophy.

Did I say he did everything wrong? It’s a perfectly reasonable viewpoint to say he is an excellent manager but he also has faults. The issue isn’t that we never won big games, it’s that we didn’t win ENOUGH of them, if we did then we would have a trophy to show for it. Same with the players; Eriksen, Kane, Son, Dembele etc played well in SOME big games but when push came to shove we lost the real do or die, win or go home games more often than not. He’s not a young manager, he’s 48 and he’s just won the first trophy of his career. With that in mind it’s not being unreasonable to say he could improve on some aspects of his management style. If you actually read what I posted again I did say I agreed with the point of view that the squad needed reinforcements and needed to be better if we’re being blunt so I take issue with the insinuation that I’m bashing Poch just for pointing out some aspects where he could have done better.

Of course you can say what you like, that was a pretty damning set of errors you claimed Poch made though, basically all aspects of his management of those games was wrong, when in reality it was probably fractions. Now I respect you as a fellow Spurs fan and generally a fair poster but unless you are going to tell me you have been an elite manager, some of those areas you claimed he failed at are hard for a lay fan to judge. As for the fact he is 48, PSG is the first club he has managed where he has the odds of winning trophies stacked in his favour.

He’s not solely responsible for us losing big games, he’s partly responsible though just as he was a huge part of getting us to those games in the first place. If you go through each aspect I critiqued; subs? It splits opinion on here but it’s not an alien point of view that he wasn’t proactive at times, we all know his outlook on subs from his book. You can disagree and that’s fair enough but it’s fair game to IMO question his approach with subs at times.

in-game management? Well that kind of ties in to the above.

Team selection? I don’t think I need to go through each game but he made some weird decisions at times. All managers do of course so he’s not alone there.

I agree with the point about the big games being decided by fractions but that is what the best managers are paid to do, outthink the opponent.

I’ll reiterate that Poch should have been backed more in the transfer market but I don’t agree with the view that Poch couldn’t do anymore than he did and there weren’t times where he could have been better as a manager.

Ive never managed a professional football team but I’m guessing none of us have but that doesn’t stop us from having an opinion on Jose for example

He has to go immediately if we are to get anything from this season. Playing for clean sheets and counter attacking goals is fine, but not when you can't get the ball forward and your defenders are giving away goals left, right and center.

I held out for quite some time in the belief that we would get well organized and hard to beat, but it's a complete shambles.
