Jose Mourinho - SACKED

o_O.... Porto had won their league in: 1990, 1992, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999.
They also won their version of the FA Cup in: 1991, 1994, 1998 and 2000.
They won their equivalent of the League Cup in:
They appointed Mourinho in 2001.

Three years is a while in my world. Primeira Liga started in 99/00.

Domestic cups are irrelevant.

Because the man in charge is a divisive character hated by fans
I do wonder what would have happened if he hadn’t managed on these shores before and had no baggage that way, but had won those trophies managing in Germany instead (as well as Spain and Italy)
I said it before but Pochs greatest achievement wasn’t the finals or the CL, it was uniting a fan base that IMO by 40 years of supporting has never been United before
Even under Harry’s swash buckling football he abs haters because of who he was and who managed previously (rarely for what he did on the pitch)
George Graham actually wins a trophy and was despised because of his history
Ramos... could never be Jol, and of course hated tomato sauce
Poch had no baggage, united the fans and played some great football. He earned the longest stint here as a manager in a very long time. So who ever came after him was ok a hiding to nothing with so many people.
Imagine if it was Eddie Howe or Hasenhutl now!!!
If he was at Spurs and had us playing this way then I think he would be getting even worse comments.... I think the ONLY thing going for him and that some people argue on here is ‘but he won all those trophies and Chelsea and Man Utd’

I’m not sure it’s fair to say that. Dele was very good for Jose at first, one of our best players in that initial new manager bounce. We then lost Kane and Son to injury and Jose shoved him up front, Dele toiled away but he’s no centre forward.

This season he has hardly played and been scapeg0ated for occasions when the whole team has played poorly or singled out for minor, sub optimal actions as though they are huge crimes.

Other players like Dier, Hugo and Davies have made far bigger individual mistakes and Jose says nothing and keeps picking them. Players like Lamela can break COVID rules, do nothing when on the pitch other than lose possession way more than Dele and yet still play ahead of him. It defies logic really.

The manager appears to have something against the player and I can’t help but wonder if it was the long ball comment in the documentary as we have almost no creativity in the team at the moment with a very creative player in our squad being unused other than in the ‘playing is a punishment’ type games against Marine and FC Pig Farmer of Estonia in the Euro also rans bowl.

Personally I think Alli should have been given a kick up the arse long before Jose rocked up and he was right to leave him out of the team when we were winning. But I totally agree with the part in bold. It makes no sense not to give him a run of games now unless he has made up his mind about him and wants to sell him. Kane and Son ain’t gonna get dropped but it’s not like Bergwijn, Moura and Lamela are ripping it up. None of them are scoring or creating much of anything so why not give Alli a go? I’m not talking about shoehorning him into the team because he’s not that good as a player but surely Jose can devise a system where Alli can fit in?

Also, didn’t Alli also tweet something years ago about never wanting to play for Jose? Wouldn’t be surprised if Jose hasn’t forgotten about that. I bet Alli pooped himself when he found out Jose was our new manager and frantically hurried to delete the tweet.

Anyone watch West Ham yesterday? They'll finish above us this season.

Anyway, they went to Villa and completely played them off the park. Took the game to them, attacked, played to their strengths. 20 shots, 10 on target, Villa managed 2 on target.

Watch how different it will be when we play them in our rescheduled match, or any match of a similar ilk.

As i've said, i can handle poor football if it breeds results, but it's not, and moreso, we're not playing to our strengths because defending deep is not our strength. Just watching that last night, proper hurt.

Was a great point i think on The Extra Inch podcast, how different would we look at players like Lamela and Moura if we brought them on 3-0 up to close a game off? Instead we bring them on to chase a game which they cannot do, and therefore our view of them is obviously negative, maybe rightly so, but how much better would it be to be clear and away of teams in games and resting Kane, Son in the final 15 like proper big teams do.

I'm not even a big fan of Dele but yes Dele pressed well under Poch although I don't see the issue there anyway as we don't even press as a team.

We retreat very quickly into the low block, so the question is probably does Jose think Dele can be disciplined in closing down which I can't see why he wouldn't be.

I don't think he has a problem as such with the work rate, It's more the flicks, risk taking and losing possession. When we were dominating possession like under Poch we could afford to try risky things, knowing we would win the ball back and keep probing in for an opening again, Yet the way we play now if we counter attack and Dele loses the ball we might not get it back and will retreat back under pressure again.

I'm sure there is still a place for Dele in this side though, some of the starting 11's picked lately must really tinkle him off.

I think at times we had to try risky things as we were regularly playing against 11 man defences.

So it’s his fault we have only beaten weak teams.... I mean it’s not as if we have got knocked out of cups by lesser sides before
odd
I mean very odd
Statistically as a club we have faced the weakest sides in cups even under other managers (athletic did a decent article on it) Haven’t won any in a long time

You said it yourself that you can only beat what is in front of you - if you or others want to use the cup runs as a positive then it's only logical that some will want to apply some context to that.

I don't care if we play teams 2-3 levels lower than us all the way through each competition if it means we win the trophies at the end of it as no one remembers who you beat along the way.

Make no mistake if we had been knocked out of any of the cups it would have been a negative - does that make still being in them an achievement or a positive? I don't think so - beat City to win the LC and beat Everton in the FA and we can start to praise our cup performances.

West Ham beat a decent Villa team, outplayed and most importantly outscored them!

Christ, I'm praising Wet Spam..........can it get any worse!

I find it odd for anyone to single out wins as a negative spin on performance. It’s cup football and we are in it still in those competitions.

we should say in the cups we haven’t roostered up like we have historically then. Surely that’s a positive? When was the last time we were halfway through a season and in all the competitions we started in? I can’t remember TBH, maybe it was recent, maybe it wasn’t

When was the last time which they finished a PL season as the top team in London?!? Have they even done it in the PL era? Doubt it....

Could also quite likely have no London teams in the top 4 this season!

You need to realise it's a reaction to people saying we are doing well in the cups - we aren't we are simply doing what is expected. No ones saying it's bad or a negative, that's just twisting what is being said and IDK you persist in doing so.

If we lose v City/Everton/Wolfsberger would you be saying we done well in the cups this year? No - so why are you saying we are doing well in the cups now?

Here is the kicker West Ham are just on a different and higher level to us ATM.
Thank christ Fulham are in the league.
