Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

there are thousands of derelict house and apartments across the UK, thousands more that sit empty as second and third homes or owned to rent which people can no longer afford

it's lack of government investment into services such as health and education that have brought the capacity down, the privatisation of utility providers that allowed them to chase profits rather than keep their infrastructure reliable and adequate, the asset stripping process has to stop and be reversed

we don't have an immigration problem, we have an attitude problem

Maybe not right at this moment but surely we have to set reasonable limits and targets for how many people we allow in to this country?

Mascaraing as GutterBoy no?

After 15 years working my socks off my businesses are at last making money - just as corporate tax goes up 19 to 25%, but I voted Labour. My timing is off, I missed the low tax era 😭

Starmer is a centrist though. He represents all people. So should find a balance. I think people are excited and pleased to have someone with base competence and decency. How he handles the many demands on public finances and whether Labour can innovate will be key to how he fairs in his first term. I think he could deliver two terms and it would probably take a decade to make an impact and rebuild. Baby steps.

I’m a lifelong Labour voter, I didn’t vote for Corbyn as he’s too left wing for my liking. Starmer seems a bit more sensible. I hope he doesn’t pander to the fringe left of the party and governs with some common sense and we can get some stability after the mess of the few years during Covid and post Covid.

Yeah, but they have to be based in facts, not the current right wing driven narrative about small boats.

And like I say, it's a two way street, we have to readdress the damage done to peoples ability to leave the UK and work elsewhere.

So my recent post in the centre forward thread was probably a poor attempt at humour. Anyway I apologise.

But back on politics I noticed Starmer say that the is not enough prisons. Well to many prisoners with not enough prisons, while saying that he does not want to realise people early. So surely then he is saying the tories did not build enough prisons.

Odd because I'm sure over the years Labour have been against and rightly so increasing the prison population.

As a Labour voter this has confused me and I can only hope he explains himself further over the coming years.

I believe we have one of the largest prison populations in Europe, something of a national disgrace. I for one was hoping the would be a mass release of prisoners with more community based rehabilitation.

I’m sure there’s a sensible middle ground between the tories rhetoric and just let everyone in.

With a massive majority I really want to see him straight away hit the energy firms for a tax.

Can't say it will stop them investing because they are not doing that already. Same with those disgusting firms pumping brick into the sea.

A deal on reciprocol university fees would be better - keep it about high skills rather than low

and how would that work and why? Better not to tie ourselves in, students from abroad are a huge revenue raiser for unis. I don't think there's enough people from the UK wanting to study within the EU due to the language barrier.

There are no european students at all now they pay rest of world prices (30k a year). If you could get them to match the new UK ones (probably around 12k) all the greek and french etc students will hopefully come back

Did Macron actually know what he was doing?
Not really. He's lost all his neo-lib MPs and now has to deal with a good decent socialist parliament. The socialists are further from him politically than he is from Le Pen (different shades of right). Hopefully a sign of a better president (Melenchon) next time that's up for vote though

We are at the stage now where it has to be everyone against the fascists. This has headed them off, hopefully for quite some time.
