Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Pretty funny when you consider just 3 weeks ago this bloke was complaining about injuries.

Injuries picked up at Leyton Orient's training ground are costing the League One club "hundreds and hundreds of thousands of pounds" every season, head coach Richie Wellens has claimed.

The O's train at Chigwell Private School and Wellens said the pitch is not good enough for a team in the third tier of English football.

Orient have won their past five league matches and are eighth in the table, four points below a play-off spot.

"The (new) stadium is eight to 10 years away, that's not a problem," Wellens told the 72+ podcast for BBC Radio 5 Live.

"We need a training ground, we have to pay a certain amount every year to use Chigwell Private School, but the amount it costs us in injuries is severe.

"We lose hundreds and hundreds of thousands of pounds through players being out because the level of the pitch at Brisbane Road is very good, the level of the pitch at our training ground is not good enough for a League One team that want to get to the level we want to get to, so it's something we need to improve.

"My job at the moment is to pick a team that wins matches, but we do need a new training ground and it does influence the budget."

Firstly i think it’s a bit classless of the O’s manager to do that even though i do agree with him.

Having said that his complaint around injuries is related to the standard of the training facilities ( having seen my kids play at chigwell when we stayed in the UK i can vouch it’s good for kids not professional athletes). He’s not making a direct comparison between injuries and Orient’s results at least from that quote there

Polar opposite to Ange and his “ it’s just injuries mate” line.

As an aside I should follow Orient more than I do, they are my second team but barely keep track of them from the other side of the world

No, specifically “it’s just injuries mate.” You said that’s one of his “lines”. Or are you just making that part up?
Excuse me what exactly am I making up

Asked why his second season in charge had been more difficult, Postecoglou said: "It's just injuries.

That’s exactly what he said.
I get it you’re a fan of Ange, that doesn’t give you carte blanche to accuse people of making stuff up.

Saying something once makes it a “line” someone uses? Weird.

Anyway, the Orient bloke apologised. He obviously got a tap on the shoulder because it was an absolutely macaronic thing to say about the manager of a club that has supported their club so much.

Sorry you have lost me
He said that. It’s a line he used.
And you are calling me weird.

if you can’t converse with people who disagree with you in an appropriate manner maybe it’s better just to not engage in a conversation in the first place?

Is it just me that thinks that Ange is adapting more recently? Both today and midweek he made key changes early in what must be a bid to keep players fresh. We also looked a lot stronger and more of a unit today than we had and I think that maybe we are looking to play on a smarter way. Maybe this has been born out of wanting to play for the result instead of going out there with freedom. But I have liked elements of what’s been happening and hope that it may continue. I also like that we are using youth players and maybe Ange will become better at rotating the squad if he can be trusting of more players outside of what would be considered the strongest first 11.

There was definately a more pragmatic approach today than there has been previously which is a positive.

Having said that, we still lack any identity and our structure is appalling.

He has two tough games coming up, would be amazing if we get through them and maybe then there is a possibility that he has turned a corner and the descision to stick with him was justified.

To me similar tactical adaptations as we've seen for a while now.

More rotation as we actually have 13-14 first team players that can play some of the game at least.

Trust part i fully agree on. Ange seems to trust Scarlett more than he did Lankshear. Rather obviously doesn't trust Reguilon. Some trust in Moore, but still somewhat limited. Quite a lot of trust in Bergvall and Gray now.

Can agree or disagree on who he should trust and who he should have trusted earlier or not. I think he's making decent decisions. But it's the same as all managers, unless they have trust in the player they won't use them unless they have to.

its just injuries? its angeball and its happened before:

- He also admitted his high-intensity game plan had taken its toll as he started preparations for the St Mirren match.

- “It’s not bad luck,” said Postecoglou. “We’re playing too many games. People can talk about it as much as they want, but because we don’t have the squad to rotate players at the moment we are paying the price. And we are playing a certain brand of football that puts pressure on players.

- “Since the last break we are going to have I think 13 games in the space of maybe six weeks. No other club has that by the way. So that is going to have an attrition, particularly when we are talking about having a limited squad and limited options.

- “David Turnbull hasn’t missed a game so I don’t think it takes too much investigation to understand that his body is fatigued. We are paying the price for that at the moment.

“It’s not that it’s a price I’m willing to pay, because I don’t want players to get injured, but I didn’t want to compromise our football and take the foot off the pedal because I knew there were going to be this many games. I just figured ‘well let’s just go for it’ and we hope to hang on until the break.

“My players aren’t holding back and it’s the only reason we are being successful at the moment. You can’t hold back. It’s all-in or nothing and I’ve said that to them from day one whether it’s training or playing, you’ve got to be totally into this.”

Postecoglou added: “There were a least two or three out there on Sunday (feeling it). Mikey is nowhere near 100 per cent fit, but I thought he was outstanding, real maturity from him to put his injury to one side and contribute to the team. There are a lot of those examples.

“David has been unbelievable for us. Not just the quality of his play, but the fact he is playing every game. I’m putting him out there every time because we need him and we don’t have a lot of options there.

“I was gutted for him on Sunday because he deserved to be out there at the end. But hopefully it is nothing too significant and we will get him back pretty quickly.”

“I think it’s too much footbal
l, but at the same time I also understand that we are in Europe, we are in a cup final and we have brought it upon ourselves in many respects.

“If we had a more rounded squad, if this team was a year further down the track or two years down the track and were more settled, then I think we could navigate ourselves to be better off than we are now at the moment.”

“Moff probably wasn’t in the calculations two weeks ago, but we just had so many injuries. We brought him into training and he has looked bright. We brought him on the other night and he looked good.
