I think he has previously had too much belief in both his system and the suitability and quality of the players we have in playing it. That steadfast desire to stick to his program has hurt him and us this season, especially during this injury hit period (along with his refusal to use the extent of his squad for freshness). I'm not sure if he has truly adapted (the hope) or if the injuries and available players have just forced a change? Is it just me that thinks that Ange is adapting more recently? Both today and midweek he made key changes early in what must be a bid to keep players fresh. We also looked a lot stronger and more of a unit today than we had and I think that maybe we are looking to play on a smarter way. Maybe this has been born out of wanting to play for the result instead of going out there with freedom. But I have liked elements of what’s been happening and hope that it may continue. I also like that we are using youth players and maybe Ange will become better at rotating the squad if he can be trusting of more players outside of what would be considered the strongest first 11.
I guess we'll see over the medium turn when VDV and Romero are back. Or maybe even with Danso who is supposedly quite quick as well. If we see a return to the halfway high line then we'll know its player dependent rather than tactical. I hope its the latter because as i've said quite a few times I don't think his system is a million miles off, its just always needed a bit of a reality check in terms of what is possible with the squad of players he has and the relevant adaptations.
