Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

We are a shambles right now. Ever the optimist, I see it as a “darkest hour is just before the dawn” moment!
I can't see it. I still think it'd be wonderful for football if he could turn this around and win something but he won't. There are no signs IMO that he can be successful at this level - quite the opposite in fact. I have absolutely no faith that he'll turn this around.

When we look back on his reign with hindsight, I think he'll be judged as a man who dragged us to our lowest point in over 20 years and nothing he'll do in his future career will suggest that he was anything other than a guy we took a punt on and got badly wrong.

That's really harsh but sport at this level is. You're either good enough or you aren't...and Ange isn't.

I agree with you. It’ll take a change of manager but where that brings us who knows. I’m optimistic given the profile of our squad and the players we’re bringing in. Our most important signing by a mile next summer will be a coach who can get the best out of them.

I think that's very fair comment. There is a lot to be positive about with the playing squad. There is a strategy there and we've signed a lot of potential.

I was struck by how well The Dippers smothered us last night. Whenever we got in possession, they had 2-3 players around us. Whenever we broke, they got players back quickly. They looked very well drilled and coached. We didn't. Slot inherited a very good side but he's had 6-8 months and he's evolved that team into something different than Klopp had and it's very impressive.

We have the building blocks to be much, much better. It needs the right man to do for us what Slot (and Klopp) did for Liverpool.

All very depressing really. More and more evidence that when we go into a cauldron of battle against a decent to good team, Ange 9 times out of ten is found wanting...just simply out of his depth really and injuries cannot excuse all of what we've seen for over a year now.

Let's see if we can see some possible reaction on Sunday, but i doubt it...

Would Slot have been good enough with Allison, van Dijk, Konate, Gomez, Quansah, Roberton, Szoboszlai, Diaz, Jota, Gakpo and Nunez out for 2/3 of the season?

You keep giving excuses about injuries....have you not sen our form that goes way back to late 2023 and how when we've had our injured players back, we still are getting poor results?

Do you really look at our results against Ipswich, Leicester (both games), Palace, Everton (at Goodison) and still say we've won none of those games and that was because of our injuries? I mean Really??

i do wonder about our coaching, good enough for a mid table team, not top, elite level

last time we had that was conte's entourage - i think first 10 games last season is very interesting to review, see what progress or lack thereof has been made

I've said time and again that Ange isn't beyond criticsm. The Everton game in particular was pathetic. But you're an absolute macaron if you write off the injuries. Answer my question: do you think Slot would be successful with that amount of important players out?

Leicester away we battered them, terrible finishing meant it finished 1-1.
Leicester at home was about a week ago. In the middle of the injuries.

I very much doubt Slot would be clear at the top by 6 points if he had those injuries. I'm almost damn sure he wouldn't be struggling to get any wins against any decent team (or even against the bottom 6) with those injuries or have them in 10th.

1 point vs Leicester in two games, one of which we had a full team, the other we had injuries but would certainly have dominated a 'best 11' chosen between the two teams on the day. That says it all.

Are you still blaming injuries for the losses vs Ipswich and Palace games as well?

We have gone rapidly backwards since last Autumn, if we're being honest. First ten games were wonderful, Ange's approach was novel and exciting. As soon as coaches studied it they have more and more been able to nullify it; even coaches near the bottom with far less resources (and coaches we wouldn't want to see in out own dugout because we think they'd be beneath us).
Ange hasn't been able to refine and/or adapt to how coaches now approach him and quite frankly he looks out of his depth.

I don't buy the injuries excuses because when we've had fully fit (or near fully fit) teams we see the same issues and that was thye case last season when we got our walking wounded back...the regression in coaching and set-up is real and quite alarming

Sorry, still blaming injuries for those losses? When did I write that?

Ipswich at home was awful -- we had a really bad run but also went to Emirates Marketing Project and won 4-0 (sorry I know that doesn't count because they had a bad run too.)

So with the same kind of injury crisis Slot might have his team as low as 9th? Seems about relative to Spurs and our expecations then.

I said he WOULDN'T have them as low as 10th, which is our equivalent. To be even more clear, i think the lowest he'd have them would be 6th.
So you agree Ipswich was awful. Everton away was awful. What about Palace?

P.S. - No point in winning 4-0 away at Emirates Marketing Project if you're gong to lose 13 games and be closer to the relegation zone than the top 6. So all that good kudos is effectively wiped out imo.

Lastly, can you give a good reason as to why Ange should be kept in the job at this point? I mean can you lay out a vision of what you think he is trying to do at Spurs in terms of tactics etc? All i see if naive attacking tactics that are disjointed and not balanced with good defensive structure...but i know you've followed his career more than i have so i'm all ears.

It's a hypothetical and there is a very obvious challenge to that question which partly relies on speculation.

However, what I would say is Slot wouldn't be 14th in the league and he wouldn't have lost a semi final in the manner we lost it last night. And all of our injured players have not been out for two thirds of the season.
