Last one is classic Musk.

This is what happens when you aimlessly fire a load of people. Musk never even takes the time to get to know his staff. He just goes in and fires everyone

If your gonna cut bureaucracy and fire hundred of thousands of people you need to at least take time to learn who they are and what they do

This is giving them the chance to live the "American Dream" put them out of work lose their homes and let them and their families work their way up to be billionaires just like him and Musk had to.

Agreed.
Unbelievable silence and general cowardice from some of the 'big guns' in the field, unless they're evaluating a meaningful response.

Although it is a tough one. He has the mandate and the popular vote and it is only 6 weeks or whatever in. The Dems have nothing, not the Senate, not Congress, no significant levers beyond saying to the media every morning what a brick show it is, which would a) sound like sour grapes in the way the media portray it & b) lose any impact after about 3 days.

Part of me understands why they would be standing back, keeping their powder dry and watching the dumpster fire have as big an immediate impact as it could. There perhaps needs to be a lesson to the American public of this is the full, unbridled fudge-up you bought. Buyer's Remorse?

Also, we saw in the election campaign the Dems didn't have too many positive alternatives that the public were on board with. They need quite the reset.

I read an article a couple of weeks ago (in The New European, I think) which suggested they are purposely allowing things to unravel for a while, as they feel that’s the most effective way to allow the electorate to see the consequences of MAGA, and to therefore deal it a fatal blow in the longer term.

Seems extremely high-risk - and unlikely - to me. My reading is that they are disorganised, are being totally overtaken by the pace of change, and lack a clear figure to rally around.

Edit: with apologies to @Lost Mango above, who just beat me to it!

And also replying to @Mikey10 ...yes they are in need of a major revamp/reset, but I am still surprised that the likes of Obama and Clinton have not spoken out - even W, who tried to 'cleanse' his reputation off the back of Trump before but is now quiet.

I think believing that the American public would have buyer's remorse would be bizarre and misplaced. We have seen that clearly is not a tactic/thought/process that works.

The dems have been rejected, and rejected for the biggest clown shoe to ever stand for POTUS, even though the voters knew exactly what they were getting.
There's no point in the old guard speaking up, rightly or not they are not trusted.
They need a reset, and not a soft one, they need a total new guard.
One willing to listen to what the voters actually want, something now almost totally lost on political parties, you are elected to govern in our name, not to carry out your own agendas.

The Republicans are in no better condition, they were rejected for an absolute idiot and his cabal of nutcases. Trump and musk are not republicans and once the penny finally drops on the die hard rep voters that actually think having Trump in the Whitehouse is maybe not worth the poop that he will unleash then they will need to look around for a candidate that is going to have a hell of a job rebuilding their party.

Trump will cause his own downfall, the dems need to be in a position to capitalise, but it needs to be with a proper leader, a real vision and a message will resonate across many demographics.

I hope it continues along this path and gets much, much worse.
So bad in fact, that the arseh.oles that voted for Trump suddenly wake up to what he is.
This is a fascinating and understandable sentiment.
But what does that look like?

Fascism being what it is, they already have those counter avenues sewn up.
What are people going to do? Protest? They'll be labelled lefty wokey and anti democracy, irrespective of how they voted. And they'll be met with a group of, well....we saw what they look like on 6 Jan.

It's difficult to see what can be done until the mid terms. Until then I guess the US political and judicial system needs to run interference. Partly that's how the US system is designed (the checks and balances), but partly it's also anti democracy. And that last bit is essential tipping point for fascism - make behaviour that retains the soul of the nation seem undemocratic.

Which does raise the question about democracy - we may not like or recognise what the current US looks like. That doesn't mean it isn't what Americans want (by virtue of vote, you'll never have consensus)

Timing is important.
Calling out democratically mandated actions is very troublesome.
Doing it now seems like nothing more than sour grapes and can used to look anti democracy
